Union Pacific Foundation Honors NRC with Grant
Northfield Retirement Community (NRC) was recently awarded a $1,000 grant from the Union Pacific Community-Based Grants Program to assist in the development of the Pathways of Faith Park. The park, located on the NRC campus, is designed to be a community gathering place that will provide space for relaxation, reflection and opportunities for individual meditation.
The Union Pacific Foundation, which awarded the grant at a special reception in the Twin Cities, exists to support nonprofit organizations whose projects improve and enrich quality of life in the communities in which Union Pacific employees live and work.
Kyle Nordine, president and CEO of Northfield Retirement Community, said, “We’re very grateful for Union Pacific’s financial support of this important project. Not only is the Pathways of Faith Park a wonderful extension of our mission, as a permanent feature of our campus, it will surely enhance the well-being and quality of life of NRC residents and their families, as well as the citizens of Northfield, for generations to come.”
Phase One of project construction begins this month and includes the creation of the meditation and gathering spaces as well as plantings, path construction and the placing of benches. Completion of this first phase is scheduled for mid-July.
In addition to providing a place for groups and organizations to hold small events and programs, the park is designed with the intention to offer quiet places for people to spend time with friends and loved ones. The natural landscaping will be conducive to relaxation and meditation, and opportunities for intergenerational projects – such as gardening – will abound.
Northfield Retirement Community has a 40-year history of providing quality housing and services specifically designed to meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of older adults. The organization currently operates or manages seven senior living facilities across the community: Northfield ParkView, SouthView Suites, Cannon Valley Suites, Northwood Pines, Northfield Manor, Evergreen Lodge (memory care facility) and Northfield Care Center. Providing a range of services – from round-the-clock care to minimal home care assistance – the housing options available focus on giving adults, age 55 or older, the assistance they need to lead healthy, meaningful lives.
