Northfield Retirement Community Hosts Successful 2013 Golf Classic

Northfield Retirement Community (NRC) hosted over 125 golfers for its 7th Annual NRC Golf Classic on Monday, June 3, one of the largest turnouts to date.

The event is a fundraising tool of the Northfield Retirement Community Foundation, which provides broad support for NRC’s mission of delivering premier living environments and outreach services to aging individuals.

Event organizer and NRC Vice President of Long Term Care Operations Tom Nielsen said, “The event was a great success. In addition to beautiful weather, attendees sported a spirit of generosity for a great day of camaraderie.”

In addition to supporting the NRC mission, proceeds from the event also fund special projects, this year, the new Pathways of Faith Park, which is scheduled to be dedicated in the coming months. Located on NRC’s campus, Pathways of Faith Park provides a space for residents and surrounding community members to gather, spend time with family and friends, and relax and spiritually renew.

The event featured 18 holes of golf held in a scramble format along with lunch and an elegant steak and shrimp banquet dinner. A well-supported raffle drawing awarded participants a large array of prizes and to benefit the Foundation. The $10,000 hole-in-one prize and a $5,000 putting contest provided spirited entertainment, but ultimately no one collected either elusive prize.

Nielsen added, “It’s inspiring is seeing the commitment of our many colleagues, sponsors, volunteers, family members and others who come out to support our mission. While the event certainly is about raising funds, we also see it as an opportunity to recognize and celebrate all those who make it possible for us to serve the older adults in our care.”

Northfield Retirement Community has a 40-year history of providing quality housing and services specifically designed to meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of older adults. The organization currently operates or manages seven senior living facilities across the community: Northfield ParkView, SouthView Suites, Cannon Valley Suites, Northwood Pines, Northfield Manor, Evergreen Lodge (memory care facility) and Northfield Care Center. Providing a range of services – from round-the-clock care to minimal home care assistance – the housing options available focus on giving adults, age 55 or older, the assistance they need to lead healthy, meaningful lives.
