Acclaimed Glen Campbell Alzheimer’s Film Comes to Northfield

Senior care providers Northfield Retirement Community and Three Links have partnered to bring the acclaimed documentary film “Glen Campbell… I’ll Be Me” to Northfield for a one-time showing.

The film, which chronicles Campbell’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease while on his final tour, will be shown at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the Northfield Middle School.

Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011 and made the decision to deal with it publicly. The film documents the legendary singer’s goodbye tour as well as his evolving relationship with his wife, Kim, and his children. It details Campbell’s amazing journey as he and his family attempt to navigate the wildly unpredictable nature of his progressing disease using love, laughter and music as their medicine of choice.

“This documentary will deeply touch anyone who has dealt with Alzheimer’s disease, especially from the standpoint of a caregiver,” says Kyle Nordine, president and CEO of Northfield Retirement Community. “Alzheimer’s is the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death and takes an extraordinary emotional toll on all involved in the disease. Our hope in bringing this film to Northfield is to provide hope for those who are currently dealing with Alzheimer’s and awareness for those of us who may one day face it.”

Both Northfield Retirement Community and Three Links offer memory care housing and services for individuals with dementia, Alzheimer’s and other related disorders. Both organizations have also been visible supporters of local awareness and education efforts, and are supporters of ACT on Alzheimer’s, a statewide collaborative working to prepare Minnesota for the impact of Alzheimer’s.

Following the showing of the film, a panel of healthcare experts will be available to discuss questions about Alzheimer’s. Proceeds from the event will go to support Alzheimer’s awareness, research and education.

Approximately 600 tickets are available to the public for the Northfield showing and are available free of charge on a first-come first-served basis. Those interested in more information or tickets should call 507-645-9511.
