Kathy Filbrandt Retires After 38 Years of Service

Northfield Retirement Community (NRC) said goodbye to long-time employee Kathy Filbrandt on July 31, 2015, after more than 38 years of service. Kathy worked at NRC as a beautician and certified nursing assistant, touching the lives of thousands of residents.

“We are so grateful to Kathy for all the years she spent at NRC and her commitment to the wellbeing of our residents.” says Kyle Nordine, President and CEO of Northfield Retirement Community. “I know that I can speak on behalf of our entire staff and many of our residents when I say that we will miss her warmth, her incredible work ethic and most of all her smiling face.”

Kathy joined NRC’s staff on June 1, 1977, as a nursing assistant, working primarily at ParkView East. When the Care Center Beauty Shop was built in 1985 she began spending her afternoons as NRC’s resident beautician. In 1997, she was honored with the Minnesota Health Association’s Caregiver of the Year award for her dedication to excellent resident care. She was presented her award by her future boss, Kyle Nordine, then the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Association of Homes for the Aging, now known as LeadingAge Minnesota.

In addition to her caregiving duties as an employee of NRC, Kathy has donated hundreds of hours as a volunteer helping residents get to Chapel on Sunday mornings and back to their rooms at the conclusion of the service. She plans to continue her volunteer role in retirement.

“Over the past 38 years, I have built so many wonderful relationships at NRC,” says Filbrandt. “I truly think of the staff and residents as family; I plan to enjoy my retirement, spending a lot of time in my garden and visiting my friends at NRC often.”

Kathy is a longtime Northfield resident. She and many other employees over the years have helped create a special living and caring environment at Northfield Retirement Community.

NRC has a more than 40-year history of providing quality services and housing to meet the needs of older adults. Kathy has been an integral part of these years.
