Northfield’s 2015 Walk to Remember Benefits Alzheimer’s Association
Northfield Retirement Community (NRC) and Three Links will host the eighth annual Walk to Remember to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s care, support and research on Sunday, September 27, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
All activities will begin and end on the NRC campus (901 Cannon Valley Drive, Northfield). The event is held in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the nation’s largest such event, held in more than 600 communities.
Walk to Remember is a community-based walk set up by committee members from many groups in the Northfield area – including staff members at Northfield Retirement Community and Three Links. Participants choose from one of two routes and may walk alone or with family and friends or a corporate team. All walkers are encouraged to offer a cash donation to the cause. Dollars are raised through donations and sponsorships.
Pre-walk activities include face painting, snacks and music by DJ Mike Ryan. This year’s event will also include a post-walk celebration including a chili dinner and live music by The Whitesidewalls. The event will be held rain or shine. In the event of rain, activities will be moved to nearby Bethel Lutheran Church.
Pat Vincent, CEO and administrator of Three Links, said, “Alzheimer’s is the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death and the only non-curable, top 10 cause of death in the USA. We hope that this event will continue to increase awareness of the need to support Alzheimer’s care and research and help to inform people about the disease, what to look for, and care and treatment options. This awareness is key to getting those who develop Alzheimer’s the assistance they need.”
NRC President and CEO Kyle Nordine said, “Hosting this community events allows us the opportunity to create a greater awareness of this terrible disease and to raise funds for additional research in an effort to find a cure. We need everyone's support and participation in this very special cause.”
