Northfield Retirement Community Invited to Congressman John Kline's Star of the North Awards Ceremony

Congressman John Kline, representative of Minnesota’s 2nd congressional district, has invited team members from Northfield Retirement Community (NRC) to the Star of the North Award ceremony as representatives of the hardworking organizers and volunteers of Northfield’s Walk to Remember event, which last fall raised more than $5,500 for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. The event, which was co-hosted with Three Links Care Center, was held in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the nation’s largest such event, held in more than 600 communities.

Emily Kerling, RN, director of health services at Northfield Retirement Community, and Amanda Gruber, staff member at Three Links Care Center, will accept the award on the volunteers’ behalf at the Star of the North Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, February 16, at 6:30 p.m., at Kenwood Trail Middle School in Lakeville, Minn.

Kyle Nordine, LNHA, President and CEO of Northfield Retirement Community, said, “Walk to Remember was such a wonderful event by itself, but for our community to be recognized regionally for its work and support for the fight against Alzheimer’s is truly incredible. We’re proud to attend the ceremony and accept the award on behalf of all of the sponsors, volunteers and walkers who made Walk to Remember a success.”

In September 2015, Northfield Retirement Community co-hosted the eighth annual Walk to Remember event alongside Three Links Care Center. The event drew nearly 150 participants from Northfield and surrounding communities and had the backing of more than 40 volunteers and 20 sponsors. A family-friendly event, the walk was followed by a celebration at Northfield Retirement Community – complete with a three-hour rock ‘n’ roll concert and a chili dinner – where generations united to celebrate their collective efforts to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
